Daniel James Cole, Costume Designer

Mr. Cole has designed costumes and scenery for opera, theatre, film, television, and industrials.  Mr. Cole has worked frequently for Seattle Opera, where his credits include costume design for Don Pasquale starring Harolyn Blackwell, and productions of Cavalleria rusticana, and Das Barbecue.  For Manhattan School of Music, he has designed costumes for productions of Zemire und Azor, Il matrimonio segretto, (both directed by Albert Sherman) Der Wildshutz, and the upcoming production of Cendrillon.  Other opera productions include Dido and Aeneas for New York Chamber Opera, La rondine for Chautauqua Opera, and Der Jasager for the Measured Breaths Opera Theater.  He has also created concert wardrobe for recital appearances by Madame Vera Galupe-Borszkh of La Gran Scena Opera Company.

New York theatre credits include productions for the Actor’s Studio, Theater for the New City, HERE Arts Center, The Vortex Theater, and The Living Theater. Mr. Cole’s film work includes costume designs for the features Jane Street, and States of Control.  He designed costumes for the live action short film Red, winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscar for Student Filmmaking.  He created both costume and production designs for the live action short Gorilla Girl, winner of both the CINE Eagle Award, and the Chicago Film Festival Award, and art directed rear-projection visuals for the R.E.M. “Monster” Concert Tour.  He has also worked as a production designer and art director on commercials, industrials, and special events including projects for Intershop Communications, Showtime Networks, LIFEbeat – The Music Industry Fights AIDS, and Napster.   Mr. Cole is on the faculty of Fashion Institute of Technology and received his MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
